2018 Jerry Shook Award

The Association of Professional Behavior Analysts seeks nominations for the 2018 Jerry Shook Award. As founder and first CEO of the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), the late Dr. Shook guided the development of certification programs for practitioners of applied behavior analysis that meet well-established, rigorous standards for valid professional credentialing programs. He was also a founding Director of APBA.

This award honors Dr. Shook’s invaluable contributions by recognizing an individual whose achievements have enhanced the value of sound professional credentials in the practice of applied behavior analysis. Anyone who has made concrete and notable accomplishments in promoting, advancing, or significantly supporting sound professional credentials in the practice of behavior analysis may be nominated for the award. Nominees need not be behavior analysts, certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board, nor members of APBA. Current members of the APBA Board of Directors are not eligible. Previous award winners were Jerry Shook (posthumously); Lorri Unumb, Vice President of State Government Affairs for Autism Speaks; James M. Johnston, Auburn University (ret.), first President of the BACB; Judith Favell, AdvoServ, former President of the BACB; Suzanne Letso, Connecticut Center for Child Development; and James E. Carr, current CEO of the BACB.

The APBA Awards Committee will review nominations and recommend a recipient to be approved by the APBA Board of Directors. The APBA Executive Director will then notify the award winner and invite him/her to come to the 2018 APBA convention (April 19-21, St. Louis, MO) to accept the award and give an address. APBA will pay for the award recipient’s travel to the convention and two nights’ lodging in the convention hotel.

To nominate an individual, please complete the form and submit by 5 pm Eastern time on January 7, 2018. In the Nominee Information section, be sure to clearly describe the nominee's accomplishments in promoting, advancing, or supporting sound credentials in the practice of behavior analysis.
