Free Webinar: Engaging Caregivers in Behavior-Analytic Research
Free webinar for all!
Event Details
Many individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) engage in severe challenging behaviors (e.g., aggression, self-injury) that require intensive behavioral intervention. A key factor to achieving long-term positive behavioral health outcomes for these individuals is caregiver adherence to behavior interventions. Caregivers of individuals with IDD who exhibit challenging behaviors experience unique and significant barriers adhering to behavioral interventions given the high level of needs and supports often required. Further, researchers investigating behavioral interventions for IDD populations have been slow to collaborate with stakeholders (e.g., caregivers) to develop patient-centered research and address the challenges of adherence. We will review our use of a participatory research method to engage caregivers to create a stakeholder-generated research agenda on caregiver adherence to behavior interventions. During this time, you will hear questions that caregivers developed for behavior analysts to investigate surrounding adherence to behavioral interventions, as well as learn insights into how to engage caregivers in the research process.
